Second Life in Ayvansaray

If you are thinking where to move next in Istanbul, have a look at Ayvansaray. It is going to be one of the new fancy places, populated by Avatarians designed by the muncipiality of Fatih. You feel like in the virtual world of Second Life, unreal looking houses with wooden looking plastic surfaces, stereotyped people and − as for now − a whole district just newly demolished. Half of the houses standing, half already teared down.

So seeing a reference to the shine of some followers of the Prophet Mohammed going to be demolished old wooden house in Ayvansaray wasn’t only the irony of fate, but the manufactured foolishness of this transformation city planning policy.

You see the same transformation at Pierre Loti, the Taksim Sqare and along Tarlabaşı Boulvard.
