Left Over Work in Istanbul / Taksim Meydanı − Beyoğlu

Since summer 2013, Taksim Meydanı has lost a lot of its usual sights but still many people pass by; businessmen, businesswomen, tourists, students and dustmen. The documentary focusses on dustmen and their daily walk through the Taksim Square and its surroundings. It shows their hard work of lugging around tonnes of garbage stashed in one huge cart, all day, all night. As the camera follows the dustmen’s route, we get a glimpse into not only the nightlife but also a side to Istanbul which we may not wish to see: homeless children out on the streets begging barefoot, bustling construction sites, an old lady who sells water for 50 Kuruş and mothers begging in the traffic jam!

2013 yazından beri Taksim Meydanı eski görüntüsünden çok şey kaybetti. Hala iş adamları, iş kadınları, turistler, öğrenciler, çöp toplayıcıları geçiyor meydandan. Belgesel, çöp toplayıcıların Taksim Meydanı ve çevresinde, tonlarca çöpü gece gündüz taşımalarını konu ediniyor. Kamera çöp toplayıcıyı takip ederken İstanbul’un görmek istemediğimiz gece yaşamından karelere de tanık oluyoruz: Sokakta yalınayak dilenen evsiz çocuklar, inşaat görüntüleri, 50 Kuruşa su satan bir kadın ve trafikte dilenen anneler…
