Video Workshop – Part 2

diyalog and the Sustainable Design Collective are organizing the next video workshop between June 18 and 26 in Malta in cooperation with the Sudanese Migrant Association, Spark15, Rima and the Foundation for Support and Shelter to Migrants.


To participate in the second part of the Workshop it is not necessary that you have attend the first section. Beginners are welcome!


The participants will learn to use the narration-style of video-filmmaking with smart phones and simple video devices to express personal experiences, visions and their aspirations regarding community life in short movies of approximately one to five Minutes. The results will be published finally over the internet on the video platform StreetWalking and on social media platforms.

The key developments of Searching Traces will center on video shooting with mobile devices, online video, mobile solutions and further moves towards distributed content.

Since 2009 the Istanbul based association DIYALOG developed in cooperation with the filmmakers Sabine Küper-Büsch, Thomas Büsch and several Turkish Universities and institutions video workshops for local communities. These video workshops were realized in Turkey, Hungary, Afghanistan and Northern Iraq in cooperation and with a financial support of the Goethe-Institut and the German Foreign Ministry between 2009 and 2016. Participants were people with and without filmmaking experiences and with and without migration background. The results of the film workshop serial “Searching Traces” involving the topic of migration from Syria to Istanbul were screened at the Pera Museum, at the Documentarist Film Festival and at Studio-X Istanbul, a space of the Columbia University, in Istanbul in 2015 and 2016. They were part of the Film Festival “Gravity for all” of the Villa Romana in Florence 2016 and at the Mahalla festival in Istanbul in the parallel program of the 15th Istanbul Art Biennial in September 2017.
